Fantastic four review

So, back again, I know, its been a while, oh well, anyway, I went to go see the new fantastic 4 film on Monday, and what a film it was, well, something. This review is spoiler full.

THE GOOD:

For the most part, this film is actually pretty good. There. I said it. Up until the last 20 minutes or so, this film is a very good telling of the origins of marvels first family. it does a decent job of setting up who each of the members are and a little bit of background. the darker tone of the film works as well, in the context of them getting their powers. The first time they go to "planet zero" as they call it, or the negative zone, to most other people, is where they get their powers. Doom is the cause of it all, cant stay away from the "power". The way they get their powers is a clever way of doing it, having each person have something similar to their powers happen to them.
The Thing, the way he looks is a merit towards the film as he looked very good, a lot better than the prosthetic version of the character from the original films. Micheal B Jordan as the human torch, as much as there was issue with him in the role, personally, i think he worked very well as the character. In the comics, Johnny has always been a bit of a dick, and Jordan played this roll well.
THE LEGO CUP, HOW DID I FORGET, ITS AWESOME

THE BAD:

Ok, I know i said it was a good film, but Jesus did i lie. The director, Josh Trank, released a tweet saying that he had a far better cut of this film, and I don't doubt that, you can clearly see that Fox went at this with a cleaver and the stapled it back together in the way of a generic "cookie-cutter" superhero film. The director of this film, Josh Trank (known for directing the sci-fi film "Chronicle") tweeted just before the film came out, saying something along the lines of "I made completely different version of this film, it was great, Fox have changed it and you probably wont see my version". he tweeted that about 2 days before the film came out. mark of death or what? the film does seem like fox has attack Tranks version with a cleaver and attempted to re-animate it in a weird Frankenstein hybrid of a sci-fi/superhero origin film. There were apparently over 40 pages of re-shoots to do for this film, which made up no less than 1/3 of the entire film. There were also rumors that Trank and Reed Richards actor Miles Teller nearly came to throwing punches at each other over a disagreement on set, as well as Trank basically being a massive douche to everyone on set. There are dozens of other rumors like this about the backgrounds of this film, and if a small percentage of them are true, then its amazing this film actually even got to cinemas, let alone did as "well" as it did. the main issue I personally have with this film is, that because it was slated as a fantastic 4 film, there was a certain level of expectations, even from fox, who had done rather well with it last marvel film X-Men: Days Of Future Past. if it wasn't given the fantastic 4 name, and was an independent story about a group of scientists going to another dimension and them having powers due to an accident, yes it wouldn't be completely original, but it would have made the whole thing seem a lot better than it was.

I give is a 6/10. It was going for something actually quite good, but the ending ruined all of that, as well as the horrid miss-use of Dr Doom, the lack of character interaction, development or just overall grit. however, there is a squeal slated for 2017, and with this cast, i would be quite excited for it, If the get it right.

Ok, so that's my fantastic 4 review. If you guys have anything you want to add or discuss, leave a comment on here on the facebook page, as well as dropping a like at the facebook page, linked below. My next post, when I get around to it, will probably be on some sort of news, not sure yet, watch this space.

Top 3: "normal" non-powered marvel characters

So,

i'm sorry i haven't posted for a coupe of days/weeks, but i haven't, never said it would be a consistent thing. anywho, lets get down to it.

this post will be my personal top 3 list of "normal" non-powered heroes (it would have been 5, but i couldnt think of 5, and then, with 4 i didnt want one of them, so 3 it is). by "normal" and non-powered, i don't just mean the obviously non-powered, but i mean people who are only at peak human, so i will rule out captain america(but more on that later). i will also rule out characters with augmentations or things they have added to their bodies, so no winter soldier. another disclaimer, or disclaimers: 1) this is my personal list, so if you don't agree, fine, its not the be all and end all, in fact if you disagree, message me, id be intrigued to hear you lists, 2) i haven't read every comic in the known (and definitely not in the unknown) universe, so if i say something that is wrong, i apologize. Ok? Lets go then, lets start with number 3:

NUMBER 3: Wilson "The Kingpin" Fisk

Coming in at number three is Wilson Fisk, better known as the king pin. this guy gets on my list because when he wants something, he gets it. he has, at many separate times, called himself the "kingpin of crime" hence the name, and then actually got there, and made himself the leader, the head honcho, the kingpin. An enormous brute of a man, he is a slab of muscle. to begin with, the kingpin was originally a spider man villain, but has has come to light recently as a daredevil villain, being the main villain in the recent daredevil series. he hasn't been restrained to these two heroes, he has grappled with most heroes in the marvel universe. the punisher has gone against him, and in a what if? comic, the punisher kills him. however, for the most part, he just wants to run crime in New York, and more often than not, ends up doing so. he is brutal and remorseless killer, but incredibly efficient.

speaking of remorseless killers, onto number 2

NUMBER 2: Frank "The Punisher" Castle

Coming in at number 2 on this list is Frank "the punisher" Castle. originally a marine corps member, serving in Vietnam, Castle came home to his family after his third tour, and went on a picnic with them in New York. after witnessing a mob execution, he and his family were gunned down to avoid being witnesses, but by some miracle, Frank survived. After the law let him down, the Castle decided to take to the law into his own hands, becoming The Punisher. The punisher uses any means to take down crime and criminals, no matter the legality, however, he is very careful not to kill anyone who is innocent or in the police. The punisher has racked up a bigger body count than most other characters in the marvel universe, in one series alone, he racked up over 2000 bodies. The punisher is just a force of nature, nothing stopping him, except for the odd prison stint. The Punisher tends to avoid most super heroes and super villians, but has grappled a few times with daredevil, he first appeared as a 'villian' of spider mans (he was brainwashed at the time) and, more recently, the super villian Electro (but not the amazing spiderman 2 version, thank god). The punisher is an appealing character as the way he deals with things is the way that everyone thinks about doing but cannot due to legal restraints and will. he has no sense of morality, if you are a good person you live,if you are bad, you die, simple as. he is second to my top choice, as my top choice is my favourite character overall, and because of the team his is a part of, but, the punisher is a very, very close second.

FINALLY,

NUMBER 1: Clint "Hawkeye" Barton

Coming in at the top spot, is Clint "Hawkeye" Barton, my personal favourite character in the marvel universe. He is the trick-shooting, wise-cracking, master archer of marvel. he comes in at number one, because he is so good at what he does. In a world full of technological advancements, super-soldiers, gods and monsters, hawk eye dares to be that guy with just a bow, some arrows and his skill alone. That is what makes him the number one, he is just a guy with skills that good, he can be on a team with captain america, thor, and the rest of the avengers. not only has he shown his skill as a master archer, he also became goliath for a while, with the power to increase his size at will, like a reverse ant man, as well as becoming ronin, a stealthy ninja-like hero, a persona that he adopted when he "died". Hawkeye has been a part of the avengers since almost the beginning, and has lead his own avengers and the thunderbolts at one point. Hawkeye is the joker on the team, always the first to make a joke. He also has a "sidekick" in the form of Kate Bishop, who is also known as hawkeye, in honour, from when he was supposedly dead, She is almost as good as him, and just as wise-cracking. Hawkeye, besides captain america, is one of the biggest moral compass in the marvel universe.

OK, cheers guys, ive beeen writing this for weeks, coming back and forth to it, finally done. my next post will be on the recent daredevil news, or, depending when i post again, my review of ant-man. See you there.

DareDevil Casting news and rumours

Before i start, ill apologize for not posting for a while, sorry, but i haven't, been busy with work and college, anywho, lets get into it.

THE PUNISHER.

you know, this guy here, all dark and brooding. he has been cast and is set to appear in season 2 of daredevil, Marvels Extremely successful Netflix series, the first of many as well. he is set to be a character similar to daredevil, doing the whole "clean up hells kitchen by any means" how ever, he will use as much lethal force as he wants to, that is the punishers' thing after all. So, on to who is playing him.

you guys probably watch, or have watched, The Walking Dead right? odds are you have, well, the actor playing the punisher, is none other, Joe Bernthal, or as he is know in TWD, Shane.

Yep, that's right, they have Shane from the walking dead playing the punisher. I'm happy with this casting choice, i think he will be able to pull it off very well. also, marvel haven't really had a dud casting choice yet, so, i'm keen

In other DareDevil news, there were rumors going around that, Jason Statham was to play Bullseye, but these were dismissed, rather rudely, by Statham himself, saying something along the lines of "i don't do superhero work". rude. also, that's ironic, as, a couple of years ago, he stated he WANTED to play DareDevil himself, oh how the tables have turned. Anyone else being cast for the role has yet to emerge, so, watch this space.

There have also been many a rumour that Elektra will be in season 2 as well, and there are supposedly casting videos circling the web. i haven't seen these videos so cant comment, but will comment on the fact they are trying to get Elektra on board with the series, as well as the punisher and Bullseye, this will be a very good series indeed, providing Elektra isn't as bad a Jennifer Garners' performance as her, never again, please.

right guys, thats about everything. my next post will either be another one about daredevil, in some respect, a top 5 "non-powered" marvel characters list, or something else entirely, so, ill see you there.

Lady thor... REVEALED!!

So,

As you may, or, may not be aware, in the current marvel comics, the character of Thor has been dubbed unworthy of carrying the hammer, Mjolnir, due to a battle with nick fury during the original sin event (I might do a post on that series). In the mean time, there has to have been a Thor, and there has. Spoiler, by the way, if you haven't read any of the all new Thor series, specifically issue 8. In issue 8, Thor (odinson) confronts lady Thor, proclaiming he knows who she is, as agent Roz Solomon, who was introduced in the God of Thunder series prior to this, is an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D, and a sort of love interest for the Odinson. whilst confronting lady Thor, Roz appears and starts talking to them both. whilst this happens, lady Thor takes her leave back to her chambers in Asgard. Once she gets back, she throws Mjolnir out the window, to fly about. After this happens, the armour on her dissolves revealing the identity of who lies beneath, and it is...

Jane Foster

I know, not the greatest character, but, she is serving her purpose. the problem is, as many question as this answers, it presents even more. I'll update this as more of the series comes out.

New Captain America Set Photos

So,

Some photos have been posted online from the Captain America: Civil War set in Atlanta, Georgia, and they look awesome. Here are the main ones.

(Photos courtesy of comic book movie.com http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=120609)

Captain Americas' suit looks very similar to that of the AoU (Age of Ultron) one, which is by no means a bad thing. personally, I favour his Winter Soldier suit, followed closely by the AoU suit.

Falcons' new suit we saw for all of about 3 seconds at the end of AoU, and here we get a much better look at it. It looks a lot closer to his comic book suit. The black and the red work alot better then the overly military look he had last time, as well as the white and red from the comics. I also look forward to see if they make the wings red as well (even though i watched AoU again last night, I cant remember).

Crossbones, or to don't know him too well, that guy that got really burnt at the end of the Winter Soldier, is a large comic book character. Sort of a low level villain that re-occurs, usually to the highest bidder. In the Captain America comics, he almost kills Cap, with a high powered sniper rifle, but whether we see this remains to be seen. The Suit for the film looks awesome, but i am unsure as to why he has mechanical claw/ knuckledusters on his wrists. Its probably to deal with Caps' strength, but I don't know, we'll find out sure enough.

Other characters have been spotted as well, including Scarlett Johanssens' Black Widow, and Elizabeth Olsens' Scarlet witch, however, they were not in costume, so i won't post them (that and I can find them for the minute).
In other news surrounding Civil War, they have just finished filming a funeral scene, which many people theorized to be for Cap himself, but there was an abundance of pictures of Chris Evans wearing a formal black suit, which has thrown many people off. It still could be his, but they had him there to throw people off, we will see.

Cheers guys, the next post will be on the Lady Thor identity reveal hat marvel did in the most recent Thor comic, so that will be out later today.

Legends of Tomorrow post

So,

Sorry about the capitals in the last post guys. The formatting screwed up when it saved and it came out like that.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW REVEAL

So,

The CW and DC have been making good tv for the last couple of years, with Arrow and The Flash. With the success of these shows, Arrow having finished its third season, and The Flash just about to finish its first, the CW are making a new series, sort of combining the two.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

First off, it looks awesome, obviously, as it is comic related, and i am a sucker for comic-related anything (except x-men origins). the premise of it is that Oliver queen (the /green\ Arrow) does this speech saying how he started doing what he does alone and wanted to stay that way. then shit got weird. with the flash being introduced, it allowed for not only a shared universe, but super powers on each of them. With the ratings still being on a high, they obviously want to make another series, and so legends of tomorrow was born.

THE CHARACTERS

From the way the trailer presents itself, the team is shown to have help from the arrow and the flash, but the main team consists of the following:

  • Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom: "A billionaire with more tech than he clearly knows what to do with it" The atom appears first in the arrow tv series, and has grown from there. a great character and a good counter to the arrows' way of doing things. also, the suit is awesome.
  • Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary: "A deceased assassin" Originally the first Black Canary, SPOILERS she gets killed in arrow season 3. they show her coming back, through the use of what is obviously the Lazarus pit. looking forward to see her again.
  • Ciara RenĂ©e as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl: "a girl with wings and a past life complex" Hawkgirl on screen, not a lot more to ask for. I don't know a lot about her character, but i do know that she has been wanted in live action for a long time. i hope she has her mace
  • Victor Garber as Martin Stein/Firestorm: "half a hero, with the other half combustible" firestorm is an interesting character in these and this show. its odd they haven't cast Robbie Amell, who is the other half of firestorm. I hope to see some bad ass-ery between him and heatwave, speaking of....
  • Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heatwave & Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold: "a pair of criminals" these two have great on screen chemistry, so i look forward to seeing them again. only problem is that they won't be on the flash.
  • Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter: time traveller that come back to assemble everyone to make them a team against the big bad, who is Vandal Savage, who will make an amazing villain, providing they cast him correctly

Apparently, this won't be debuting until January, in the mid-season break from Arrow and Flash. I might go on and do some posts about some of these characters, depending on how things go, but that won't be until closer to the time of airing.

lets kick things off, shall we?

Right, first post, something relevant before this becomes old hat

Ago Of Ultron Review:

Firstly, this will be a spoiler review, so if you have not seen it, then unless you are like my other half, and love spoilers, don't read this.
Secondly, I watched this film about a two weeks ago, so i have almost definitely got something wrong, if i have, then let me know and ill rectify it.

Right then, I'll begin

First Impressions:

In a word, Spectacular. I loved this film, it had everything i could have asked for in an Avengers squeal: the action, the comedy, the drama, the death, the obligatory nick fury action moment. It introduced the new characters in a good light for each one (the new ones being quicksilver/Pietro Maximoff, scarlet witch/Wanda Maximoff, The Vision, Ultron, Ulysses Klaw, there are probably more, i cant remember). Ultron was a good choice as the villain, and although they introduced him differently to everyone's expectations, it did work. it happily sets up the phase 3 films and overall it just is an enjoyable film.

The Avengers themselves:

Where do i begin, well, with my favourite avenger i should think, which is, to no surprise of the people that know me, Hawkeye. Now, a lot of people have told me he is useless and not a real superhero, but them I say: stuff it. in this film he is not only a better character (as he isnt mind controlled), but is more pivotal to the plot itself. admittedly, I wasn't a huge fan of the fact he wasn't in anything since the first avengers, and this goes a way to rectifying that, but i wasn't too pleased about the whole "Barton farm". that being said, it did work and it did drive the film forward, as well as setting up other future films (civil war, being the main one). the comedy with hawkeye made the character more like the character in the comics, the best part being towards the end, where he draws his bow and starts rambling about how he could have hit quicksilver and no one would know. they built him up, throughout the entire film, as though he was going to die, and thankfully, to me at least, he didn't.

Iron man, well, he started it. I kid, but he doesnt learn does he? I watched a video recently, from a guy on youtube called Mr Sunday Movies (an excellent source of comic information), and in this, he points out that in every iron man film, the villain is of tony starks' creating. Obadiah Stane: got jealous and stole his tech, Ivan Vanko, got jealous, and stole his tech, Aldridge Killian: got jealous, DIDNT steal his tech, directly at least. this is the same with ultron. In their first encounter, Scarlet Witch bewitched stark into seeing the avengers dead, whcihc caused him to go behind all their backs to make an A.I. whcih then became ultron. GOOD WORK STARK. however, redeeming factor, the new armour, looks amazing. look like the bleeding edge armour (model 38), first appearing in The invicible iron man issue number 25, from the 2010 run. of course, the best stark moment was left until last in this review. MOTHER F***KING HULK BUSTER. the Hulkbuster, or model 14, appeared in this film, after scarlet witch did her thing and "whammied" the hulk. obviously, everyone saw it in the trailer, detracting from it slightly, but only very slightly. first appearing in iron man issue 304, the hulkbuster does what it says on the tin, busts the hulk. first in a line of -buster armours (i might do a separate post on the iron man armours), it is one the most iconic comic book armours to date, and to see it on the big screen is a dream come true for any fan of marvel. the fight between hulk and hulk buster was easily in the top moments in the whole film.

right, i need to get back on track now, someone more down to earth, someone very much grounded, lets see, Thor

Thor had a surprisingly limited role in this film. why? who knows, maybe its because loki was so big in the last one, linking him in to that one more, maybe chris hemsworth wanted a slightly lesser role in preperation for Ragnarok, maybe, just maybe, marvel had a contractual dispute with Mjolnir?
who knows, anyway, thor was ace in this film, overall. the best part was him, with cap's shield. cap stamps on his shield, making it jump into the air, then thor bludgeons it with mjolnir, and it takes out like 15 ultron robots. the only problem is that thor just disappears for the film, and then appears again and suddenly knows everything about the infinity gems? shoehorned, or coincidence? ill you decide. (p.s. i was annoyed that there was a lot missing from the relfecting pool scene, and in all honesty, it added very little than to slightly set up ragnarok, but thats about it)

next, the sentinal of liberty, captain america. caps performance in this film was ace, he had the humour,he had the seriousness, he led well, he took orders well. he did good. there were a couple of hints to civil war in the film, most obviously, when they create vision, cap and stark literally trade punches (very fun to watch), a more subtle one would be the wood chopping scene where stark and cap are discussing having their asses handed to them. at the end of the film, he is left in control of the avengers, and what could be his own branch of S.H.I.E.L.D? maybe? or its just training camp for avengers, all in all, good job buddy.

black widow and the hulk: first off, no. i didnt like their relationship thing, not at all, not my thing, however, i can see that it was a better option than going along the scarlet witchXquicksilver route (that happens, in there ultimates universe verisons, the maximoffs are incestuous, not cool). hulk smashes stuff in the this film, and he smashes alot, including stark, so, no complaints on him as a solo character, equally, the black widow/red room stuff, very cool, and adds alot of depth to her, but, i still cant get over their weird thing. black widow ends up part of the end avengers and hulk is, well, good question, we don't know. it says that the quinjet landed near fiji, but that doesnt mean the hulk was on it, so he could be anywhere, on earth, under the sea drinking pina coladas with namor, or in space, who knows.

the rest of them, were also very good, bar one. falcon, WHAT WERE YOU DOING, SON?
yes, the star spangled man with a plan askes you to go look for his bff, but you dont keep doing that, when an entire city is lifted nearly above the atmosphere to be dropped down again. sorry, i dont like the lack of falcon, just for him to have a line or two in the party and turn up, albeit with a cooler costume, right at the end. war machine, two things: one, get the original armour back, or at least go a bit more comic-like and have the mini gun and rocket pod on your shoulders, and two, good job, actually, with the rescue operation, nice save.
the twins, were, actually, better than i thought they would be, however, scarlet witch was a bit of a wimp for the most part, but quicksilver was spot on. the soure of their powers i wasnt keen on, but, i get why they had to do that, DAMN YOU FOX! but, alas, they added what they needed to, and scarlet witch will be back in civil war (that i will do a post on). i wanst happy with quicksilvers death, that happens, im sorry, but, it served it purpose so, eh, ill let it slide.
finally, vision, stile the whole film, as in he walked out with it and we had to wait 20 minutes to get it back. im kidding obviously, however, easily best character in the film. although not in it for long, the character was so intruging, and you might have missed it, he does the whole "imma stick my hand in your chest" thing like in the comics, so that was good to see. he adds humour to a degree and sets up that he might know of thanos, right at the end of the film where he "destroys" the last ultron bot (ill get to that)

black panther, spider man and captain marvel, WHY. they were all rumoured,to the point they reference wakanda and vibrainium for about half an hour, and captain marvel was set to appear at teh very end with the new avengers, but they were cut out. i guess i can understand, considering they are introducing alot of them to civil war, but still, would have been good

Ultron:

ultron was, well, where do i begin. the dialogue, was incredible, it fit james spaders voice like a glove  and his plan was very cool. "i have a thing about meteors" ive seen alot of people complain about how human he is, and there are a few things i agree with, but he is an A.I that was chitauri in design but was manifested and moulded by stark, so it makes sense he is sassy and very human, for a robot. the one thing, especially after seeing the concept art, that i hated, was his overall design. i read somewhere that someone compared him to megatron from the transformers films, and i can see that, but thing i didnt like the most was, the eyebrows and the teeth, he doesnt need them. also, they should have had him like in the comics, open, fixed mouth, with the light behind it indicating that he was speaking.he should also have had a much more menacing appearance. you know what, the ultron bots, look more like ultron than ultron did. if they had gon for that, maybe made the frame bulkier, then that would have worked alot better

post credits scene:

pointless. there, i said it, you can quote me on saying it. i didnt like it. yes, we needed to see thanos get the guantlet, but they could have explained that as a flashback in one of the infinity war films. i wanted, now this was never going to happen, but i wanted a scene where it opens on a news paper from cover, saying something like "avengers save the day" and have J.K.Simmons return as J. Jonah Jamerson, slamming the newspaper on the desk, bellowing "i dont want this crap, I WANT PICTURES OF SPIDERMAN" not likely i know, but i guy can dream, right?

overall:

i loved it, but it was by no means perfect, id give it a sold 9/10, as it was literally the best movie i have seen in cinema to this day, but with hindsight, i can see the flaws in it. nothings perfect but this is damn near close.

well, thats it folks, my review done. i will undoubtedly do more, on old and new films (i recently purchesed alot of comic films for very cheap so need to watch and probably review) as well as try and possibly post weekly about the new secret wars marvel series, as it comes out, but dont hold me to that

if i missed anything, or you want to ask me anything, write a comment on this post and ill try and answer you as soon as.

see you guys soon

Hugh Jackman quits

So, this is a thing,

Hugh Jackman has confirmed that, after the third wolverine solo film, he is leaving the role of wolverine/ James "Logan" Howlett. He recently tweeted "Wolverine: one last time" alluding to the departure form the role. a recent interview he did had him state that he is very happy that the role has lasted him 17 years, from his first appearance in the very first X-Men film back in 2000. his last solo film, currently titled "wolverine 3" is due out in 2017, however, this doesn't rule out him being in next years X-men movie, age of apocalypse. when asked about it, he stated that he isn't at liberty to discuss what is going on, but that the film will be very exciting for those that are fans of the X-men and their world.
Age of apocalypse is supposed to be out the 27th of May, 2016

P.S. i am still doing my AoU review, don't worry

interm

Hello followers

i am currently writing an Age of Ultron review, but it wont be up untill, probably, the end of tomorrow, maybe?

Watch this space

introduction, i think

Greetings to all who read this.

With the release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, in cinemas around the world, my nerdy little head has been in a spin. I have had many a conversation with people i go to college with and work with about AoU as well as other comic related things, and have decided that, maybe, i should write some of my thoughts down. Given that my handwriting looks closer to Egyptian hieroglyphics than the English language, I figured a blog would be a good way of expressing. Now, i can't promise anything when it comes to this blog, all i can say is that it will be, for the most part, nerdy. A few personal things and views may slip through, but on the whole, nerdy at the core.

So, strap in, this will (I hope) be a good one.
